Former Barbary Coast Gets Latest Name, The Cromwell, for Opening on Las Vegas Strip
Former Barbary Coast Gets Latest Name, The Cromwell, for Opening on Las Vegas Strip Caesars Entertainment Corporation has officially announced that they have their third name picked in less than one year, dedicated for the new Strip casino formerly known as Barbary Coast. There will no longer be a Gansevoort Las Vegas and Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall & Saloon. The Cromwell is the latest name that was chosen for the bookmaking property originally known as Barbary Coast and the operators of the bookmaking site are releasing more updates, sources revealed. The modest and unassuming hotel and gaming resort is located at the corner of the northeast portion of the Flamingo Road and the Strip. The property closed a year before to undergo remodeling and renovation. According to sources, the gambling site makeover costs a total of $185 million. Online reports confirmed that the reopening of the bookmaking property will take place later in 2014. The new feature and theme of The Cromwell is a boutique style luxury gaming resort with 188 rooms. The gambling space allocated is measured 40,000 square foot exclusive of other amenities such as nightlife and day venues by Victor Drai and a world class restaurant from celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis. The Cromwell will begin to accept room reservations on the 24th of February 2014 however the opening date has still not been disclosed to the public, Caesars sources added. According to The Cromwell’s general manager, Karie Hall, the bookmaking property and hotel will bring exclusive and the ultimate experience to Las Vegas Strip. The executive of the soon to open property is quite stingy about giving out more information regarding the property’s pending debut. Last February 2013, Caesar Entertainment closed Bill’s which is a middle market gaming property. Based on sources, there has not been a lot of development or changes on the hotel and casino. Moreover, in the recent months, announcements were released particularly in renaming the venue Gansevoort Las Vegas. This is based on the marketing collaboration between Caesars Entertainment Corp and Gansevoort Hotel Group, a New York based company. The Gansevoort Hotel Group is known to operate and own several luxury boutique hotels located in New York as well as in other exotic locations particularly in the Turks and Caicos Islands.  The deal however did not push through in October 2013 when the gaming regulators of Massachusetts took issue regarding the investments of Gansevoort. It has been released to the online casino community that Caesars has been under investigation by the gaming authorities of Massachusetts. This is in connection with the suitability case investigated by the state’s gaming control board when Caesars applied for a gaming license to operate a proposed gambling resort near Boston worth $1 billion. The Gansevoort investor according to the Massachusetts Gaming Regulatory Board is questionable as they have been reputed to have ties to the mafia specifically organized crime based in Russia. It is noteworthy to emphasize that Gansevoort is by no means involved in Caesar’s Boston venture and not seeking license for their Strip bookmaking project according to Nevada gaming regulators. Due to the suitability case and the involvement as reiterated, Caesars eventually backed out from its Gansevoort partnership and investment. It is also known in the online casino community and news outlets that Caesars also withdrew another $1 billion partnership with Suffolk Downs Racetrack. This is the project included in its Boston development proposal which has been turned down by the gaming regulators of the MassachusettsState. According to the execs of Caesars Entertainment, the company plans to pick and find a new title for the current and under development project. Sources confirmed that the key elements of the project particularly for the renovation are already on track. This is inclusive of the rooftop nightclub with an allocated area of 65,000 square foot. There are other features to boost the hotel’s amenities including the pool area, nightclub, lounge and hotel lobby bar. A world class restaurant called GIADA is a 260 seat venue located on the second floor of the property serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
